Nibs guide

The heart of every SCRIBO fountain pen is the nib and we do it in gold; every nib is assembled together with ebonite feeders only, to get the best available handwriting performance; our nibs, in either the classic 18-carat alloy or the special Extra-Flexible 14-carat alloy, grant elasticity, mechanical memory and softness that highlights every fountain pen writing quality.

In particular, SCRIBO Extra-Flexible nib, a real jewel for handwriting, reached the highest hand-writing performance thanks to the continuous technical improvements that have been made during our previous experience.

Our Extra Extra Fine nib, with a line width of around 0.3 / 0.4 mm, is perfect for those who love extremely thin and rigorous writing.
Our Extra Fine nib, with a line width of around 0.5 / 0.6 mm, is suitable for those who love a very thin and precise writing.
For those who prefer a thin and strong writing, our Fine nib is the most suitable choice, with its line width of around 0.7 / 0.8 mm.
Our Medium nib, with a line width of around 0.9 / 1.0 mm, is perfect for those who love medium-sized writing with a strong and precise flow.
Our Broad nib, with a line width of about 1.1 / 1.2 mm, offers a fluid and abundant writing, ideal if you prefer a thicker writing.
Our BB nib provides a writing line of 1.3/1.4 mm and is an excellent alternative for those who like a broad, steady line.
Our special triple B nib, with a line width of about 1.7/1.8 mm, is very generous with ink and capable of leaving a well-marked and visible mark.
Our special Stub nib has a very wide tip and the bottom is cut into a cylinder section. It shows a considerable variation in the line width thickness between the vertical writing, of about 1.1 mm, and the horizontal one of about of 0.4/0.3 mm.
This special nib is cut at 52 degree on the tip to offer a wide, soft and precise writing surface. When used with the 52° inclination, the nib offers incredible uniformity in writing width, similar to a Broad. The more the nib is raised to the vertical, the finer the writing width becomes.
Our Extra Fine Flex nib offers an excellent variety of writing widths: from 0.5/0.6 mm at closed tips, up to 1.8 mm at open tips.
The line variation of our Flex Fine nib starts from 0.7/0.8 mm at closed tips and reach 2.0 mm at open tips.
Our Flexible Medium nib, with a writing width of 0.9/1.0 mm at closed tips, reaches 2.2 mm at open tips.
Our Broad Flex nib offers an excellent variety of writing widths: from 1.1/1.2 mm at closed tips, up to 2.5 mm at open tips.

Description

FLOW Evoluzione

Every act of writing has an origin.

It arises from an intuition, a memory, or a still-vague thought seeking a form. It is a silent, almost imperceptible moment in which everything is still possible. Then that first mark encounters time, it transforms, it takes unexpected turns, and it becomes enriched with nuances and meanings. This is how every idea finds its own evolution.

With these new editions of the FLOW collection, SCRIBO shares exactly this journey.

FLOW Origine and FLOW Evoluzione are two interpretations of the same concept. Two names that describe a single journey, the one that accompanies every act of writing. Every origin already holds the potential for what it will become, while every evolution preserves the memory of the point from which it began. Writing proceeds in the same way. One thought leads to another, one word paves the way for the next, until the page reveals something that, at the beginning, did not exist yet.

From the very beginning, FLOW was designed to follow the natural rhythm of writing. The twenty-four facets that define its profile have become a hallmark of the collection, combining character, ergonomics, and balance in a recognizable form designed to stand the test of time.

For the first time, FLOW is also available in a glossy resin finish.

Following the versions crafted from ebonite—a material that continues to be a defining element of SCRIBO’s identity—this edition explores a new form of expression. The glossy surface interacts with the light, which dances across the twenty-four facets and highlights their geometry with ever-changing reflections. The resin also offers a different tactile experience: smooth, solid, and natural to hold.

The use of this material has also led to a re-evaluation of certain design details. The base has been redesigned and lengthened by just two and a half millimetres. This minor adjustment makes the relationship between the fountain pen body and the cap even more harmonious, lending greater continuity to the silhouette. These are details that rarely catch the eye, but their presence is felt every time the fountain pen returns to your hands.

This research takes shape through two complementary editions.

FLOW Origine evokes the essence of the first gesture. The glossy pastel black finish complements the purity of the design with intense depth, allowing the light and the geometry of the surfaces to define its character. It evokes the colour of ink and that moment of concentration that precedes the blank page.

FLOW Evoluzione captures movement. The mother-of-pearl green finish reveals a surface that shifts with the light, displaying ever-changing shades, reflections, and pearlescent effects. Every movement of the hand offers a new perception of colour, just as thoughts continue to transform through the act of writing.

Each model is identified by its limited production run and year of manufacture; the 140 pieces of the FLOW Origine, finished in yellow gold, and the 90 fountain pens of the FLOW Evoluzione, finished with ruthenium accents, signify a limited production run and mark each stage of the manufacturing process over time. A subtle detail that makes each fountain pen part of the collection’s history, before becoming part of the history of whoever chooses it.

Every page preserves the origin of a thought. Every word tells the story of its evolution.

“…from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”

Charles Darwin
