LA DOTTA Paradisus

There is a city that, more than any other, has entrusted writing with the task of safeguarding freedom. Bologna, with its ancient stones and porticoes, is a promise handed down through time.

Here, the written word has never been a mere testimony, but a founding act, a civic gesture, a vision of humanity. It is in this deep-rooted tradition that LA DOTTA Liber Paradisus was born.

In the heart of the Middle Ages, when Europe was still bound by immutable constraints and hierarchies, Bologna chose to write a different page. A book of law that affirmed, with lucidity and courage, a radical idea: freedom as the original condition of human beings. A text that did not shout but declared. That did not impose but restored.

Once again, writing became a tool for emancipation, shared memory, the foundation of a new dignity.

LA DOTTA Liber Paradisus was born from that same tension. Not only as a celebratory object, but as a contemporary symbol of an intellectual legacy. Writing with this pen means recognising the value of free, slow, conscious thought. It means choosing words as a space for autonomy, as a gesture that belongs only to those who perform it. In a time that consumes everything quickly, Liber Paradisus invites us to pause, to leave a trace, to give shape to what is born within.

The LA DOTTA collection has its roots in the deepest soul of Bologna: that of knowledge, law and culture as a common good. It is a tribute to the city that has made intellect a daily practice, combining rigour and humanity, study and vision.

Each fountain pen in the collection tells a fragment of this identity, but Liber Paradisus represents its symbolic heart: writing as an act of freedom.

Made of ebonite, a living and noble material, Liber Paradisus stands out for its matte finish that gives a warm, deep, almost organic feel to the touch. The red version, crossed by yellow veins and embellished with gold finishes, evokes the warmth of the earth and civic passion. The blue version, streaked with red veins and platinum finishes, evokes the depth of thought, the dialogue between rigour and imagination. Two chromatic interpretations of the same principle: freedom as movement, never as stagnation.

Liber Paradisus is a collector’s item, designed to last over time, far from the fashions and urgencies of the present. It is a pen that does not demand attention but deserves it. It accompanies the writer in an ancient and ever-new gesture, transforming every word into an act of presence.

Because freedom is not only what is conquered. It is what is written, every day, with responsibility and care. And some pens are created to remind us of this.

LA DOTTA Manuscribere

Writing as an investigation. Handwriting as revelation.

There is a moment when thought descends into the hand.

A fragile, intimate instant in which who we are settles onto the page.

It is there that the most authentic story begins: the story of ourselves.

This is the spirit behind LA DOTTA Manu Scribere, the new fountain pen created by SCRIBO for the fourth edition of the Manu Scribere Festival – the first Italian festival dedicated to handwriting – taking place in Bologna from September 19 to 21, 2025.

An invitation to slow down.

To feel.

To leave a sign.

The elegance of mindful writing.

LA DOTTA Manu Scribere belongs to the historic LA DOTTA collection, dedicated to the artisanal excellence of Bologna.

Handcrafted from solid-bar resin, it features the pantograph engraved official Festival logo and it is inspired by the event colour palette.

SCRIBO’s 18-carat gold nib or flexible 14-carat alloy nib lies at its heart, with ruthenium finishing matching all other metal details. It is available in 12 different nib sizes, to suit every gesture, every stroke, every personality.

Because every handwriting is unique. Just like you.

A gesture that tells who you are.

With the purchase of LA DOTTA Manu Scribere fountain pen, you can receive a personalized handwriting analysis, carried out by experts from the Italian Graphology Association (AGI).

To get your personalized handwriting analysis, simply write a text of your choice on a blank A4 sheet (no lines) and post to us by mail, including:

Nationality, age, gender, education, and job.

A small gesture. A revelation.

Writing is still an act of resistance.

In a world that moves too fast, handwriting is a radical act.

A return. A remedy.

It activates the brain, stimulates memory, and strengthens identity.

It’s a language that expresses not only what you think, but how you live. How you feel. How you exist.

For every fountain pen sold, SCRIBO will donate 8% of the revenues to AGI, supporting initiatives that promote and spread awareness of the importance of handwriting.

“Every curve, every stroke becomes a mirror reflecting our inner portrait. Writing is a visual language that also conveys the emotional and creative essence of the writer.”

— Guglielmo Incerti Caselli – President of AGI

LA DOTTA Uovo in Raviolo

The art of writing meets culinary excellence.

There are creations that defy time. A few ingredients, a simple but genial idea and a mastery that turns a dish into a symbol. San Domenico in Imola, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, has written one of the most important pages of Italian haute cuisine with its iconic “Uovo in Raviolo” – a perfect balance between delicacy and technique, between history and innovation.

A thin, delicate egg pasta immersed in the softness of ricotta and spinach that encloses a melting and creamy yolk. Together with Parmesan cheese and truffle melted by hazelnut butter, it creates a unique combination of flavors: simple, yet bold tastes.

Uovo in Raviolo is the perfect synthesis of the territory, technique and flavors of San Domenico’s cuisine.

Today, that art gets a new form. SCRIBO pays tribute to this excellence with Uovo in Raviolo, a limited and numbered edition of the LA DOTTA collection. Like every edition of this collection, this one is dedicated to the celebration of our territory. A tribute to the culture, tradition and craftsmanship that make Emilia-Romagna a reference point in the world for quality and know-how.

Inspiration: our meeting with Massimiliano Mascia

The inspiration to create this new project came from our first meeting with the Chef Massimiliano Mascia. We immediately liked the idea of creating and associating one of our fountain pens with something unexpected: a dish that has made the history of Italian haute cuisine.

The idea of linking writing to such a refined and representative gastronomic experience of the territory fascinated us immediately. An unusual but perfect marriage between the gesture of writing and the art of cooking.

A fountain pen inspired by the warm and enveloping colors of this iconic dish: the fresh golden pasta, the yolk melting with mountain butter and white truffle. Each pen mark becomes an expression of the same care, precision and passion that make this dish a timeless icon.

Massimiliano Mascia: tradition and innovation

Massimiliano Mascia’s career path began when he was only 14 years old, alternating his studies with direct training in the family restaurant and enriching his experience in the best international cuisines. He honed his technique in France with Alain Ducasse, explored the organization and rhythms of catering in the United States and perfected his knowledge of raw materials in Italy.

“The cuisine of San Domenico is a cuisine tied to its land that is evolving continuously, with new techniques being placed at the service of tradition.” – Massimiliano Mascia

Just as SCRIBO celebrates the art of writing through the absolute quality of its nibs and research into materials, Massimiliano Mascia cherishes and renews a legacy of technique, passion and emotion.

For him too, handwriting has a deep meaning that takes him back in time:

“My relationship with handwriting is ancestral and takes me back to my school years, when the pages of ruled notebooks guided the movements of the ballpoint pen so as not to go off the edges. Today writing is mostly digital-phones and keyboards seem to dominate over everything, but the important things, the things that really matter, the sentences of the heart, written to the people we love and care about most, are always handwritten. Thankfully, I might add.”

San Domenico Restaurant: an icon of Italian haute cuisine

Founded in 1970, San Domenico revolutionized Italian gastronomy, transforming the refined cuisine of noble households into a culinary experience accessible to all. Its founder, Gianluigi Morini, envisioned a space where culinary artistry could be expressed with elegance and mastery, without compromise on quality.

Its prestige was cemented with the arrival of Nino Bergese, the legendary “Chef of kings, king of chefs”, who brought his expertise from serving the most esteemed aristocratic families. His vision and talent turned San Domenico into a benchmark for Italian and international fine dining.

Today, Massimiliano Mascia carries this legacy forward, guiding San Domenico into the future. Through his ability to innovate while honoring tradition, he continues to elevate the restaurant’s philosophy—rooted in its culinary heritage yet constantly evolving through technique and research.

A numbered limited edition

Together with Massimiliano Mascia, we transformed this vision into reality—turning the link between writing and fine dining into a tangible object that encapsulates its very essence.

Like a dish crafted by the hands of a chef, each Uovo in Raviolo fountain pen is one-of-a-kind. Limited to just 102 pieces worldwide – to evocate the 2 Michelin stars that Restaurant San Domenico boasts – this edition celebrates the dialogue between two art forms: the art of writing and the art of gastronomy.

A smooth and embracing writing experience

The SCRIBO nib, renowned for its fluidity and softness, mirrors the sensory experience of the egg melting into the raviolo filling.

The colors of tradition

A palette inspired by the richness of its ingredients: the red/orange of the yolk, the deep yellow of fresh pasta and the warmth of antique gold.

LA DOTTA Uovo in Raviolo

Just as San Domenico has redefined Italian haute cuisine, SCRIBO preserves and elevates the great tradition of writing. LA DOTTA Uovo in Raviolo serves as a bridge between past and future, between culinary culture and the art of handwriting. Crafted in diamond cast resin, its reddish-orange marbled pattern directly recalls the vibrant, flowing yolk of the dish, unfolding and blending with the colors and aromas of its surrounding flavors. The corten finishes pay tribute to the antique gold tone of the spoon traditionally used to enjoy Uovo in Raviolo.

The colors of taste: an exclusive ink selection

Every detail of the Uovo in Raviolo fountain pen tells a story, and the writing experience is completed by an exclusive selection of four inks inspired by the key elements of the dish:

Verde Spinacio (Spinach Green): the vegetal touch that adds depth and character

Arancio Tuorlo (Yolk Orange): the vibrant intensity of the raviolo’s golden, runny heart

Giallo Sfoglia (Dough Yellow): the warmth of freshly rolled pasta

Tartufo (Truffle): the refined and enveloping note that signs the dish with its unmistakable aroma.

A set that celebrates the colors and flavors of a true icon of Italian cuisine, transforming every written

word into a journey through taste, craftsmanship, and tradition.

LA DOTTA Travertino

A few dozen kilometers from Bologna, in the hills separating Emilia-Romagna from Tuscany, we find the Labante Caves, one of the most impressive travertine formations in Italy, with a length of 54 meters and a drop of about 15 meters.

The caves were created by the erosive action of spring water that, over millennia, has created a fairy-tale and evocative landscape where you can admire stalactites, stalagmites, flows and pools.

In addition to their geological value, the Labante Caves are located in an area of great scenic beauty, and their dark and silent environment is capable of creating an evocative and fascinating atmosphere.

The travertine that makes them up is a sedimentary limestone that is widespread in Emilia-Romagna and in Bologna itself. In fact, travertine has been used since Roman times for the construction of numerous historic buildings in our city including, the Two Towers and the incomplete Basilica of San Petronio facade that dominates Piazza Maggiore in the city center.

Our two new LA DOTTA Labante and Travertino fountain pens are inspired by the colors, scents and settings of the caves of the same name.

LA DOTTA Labante is made in 119 pieces, handcrafted in a turquoise mother-of-pearl resin inspired by the colors of waterfalls near caves and embellished with ruthenium finishes.

LA DOTTA Travertino, also made in only 119 pieces, features for the first time “Corten” PVD metal finishes that encircle the multi-colored resin inspired by the fairy-tale landscapes found near the Labante Caves.

LA DOTTA Labante

LA DOTTA Glicine

Wisteria (Glicine), a small climbing plant that color the city with clusters of lilac flowers, bloom in Bologna with the arrival of spring.

Native to China and Japan, wisteria was introduced into the gardens of Europe, starting with those of England, in the 18th century and soon became among the most popular and appreciated exotic plants because of their spectacular and fragrant blooms.

In the language of flowers, there are so many meanings attributed to wisteria, from beauty to sensuality. Of all the values that are associated with wisteria, we like to mention that wisteria has always been a symbol of friendship in Europe.

Precisely with friendship and a great sense of gratitude for our passionates, we decided to create a special trio of our three fountain pens FEEL, LA DOTTA and PIUMA with a bright and colorful material, inspired by the violet color of flowers, combined with the green nuances of the wisteria plant.

FEEL, LA DOTTA and PIUMA Glicine are handcrafted in 90 pieces per model with platinum trim.

The history of Bologna is also the history of its craftsmen and merchants.

A ceaseless activity was expressed in ancient crafts that have now disappeared, but which, due to their importance, were called ‘Arts’ and were located in clear positions within the city.

Via Orefici and Via Drapperie are precisely two of the oldest and most important streets in Bologna and are located in the historical center of the city, a few steps from Piazza Maggiore.

Via Orefici was the street of jewelers, while Via Drapperie was the street of cloth merchants. Both streets were built in the Middle Ages and were important commercial centers for centuries.

Via Orefici was originally called ‘Via degli Orefici’ because this was where the goldsmiths’ workshops were located. The street was already important in the 12th century, when it was mentioned in a document from 1113. Over the centuries, Via Orefici became one of the most important streets in Bologna for buying jewellery.

Via Drapperie was originally called ‘Via delle Drapperie’ because this was where the cloth merchants’ workshops were located. The street was already important in the 12th century, when it was mentioned in a document from 1119. Over the centuries, Via Drapperie became one of the most important streets in Bologna for buying textiles.

Both streets have been important commercial centres for centuries and have contributed to making Bologna one of the richest and most prosperous cities in Italy. Today, Via Orefici and Via Drapperie are still lively and bustling streets, attracting visitors from all over the world.

In addition to their historical and commercial significance, Via Orefici and Via Drapperie are also important for their architecture. Both streets are lined with medieval and Renaissance buildings, which create a charming and romantic atmosphere.

LA DOTTA Valverde

The history of Bologna in the Middle Ages and Renaissance is full of significant events that helped shaping the city and its culture.

There are many architectural monuments that tell the rich history of Bologna from these historical periods: the towers of Bologna, the Valverde cistern, and the Neptune fountain are three important monuments in our city, located in different places but intertwined by some historical connections.

In the early Middle Ages, between the 11th and 13th centuries, dozens of towers were built in Bologna, reaching more than 100. Bologna, at that time, appeared as a veritable “selva turrita”, a wild turreted city, like a modern-day Manhattan, but older by almost a millennium.

The Valverde cistern, on the other hand, is a work of hydraulic engineering built in the 16th century. It was built to supply water to the city. The connection between the towers and the cistern, although indirect, is very significant. The towers, a symbol of wealth and power of the city, made the construction of the cistern possible, and this helped improving the lives of the citizens.

The Valverde cistern and the Neptune fountain, on the other hand, are linked by a more direct connection. The cistern collected water from the Valverde area, which was then used to feed the Neptune Fountain.

The Neptune Fountain is one of the most famous monuments in Bologna and it was built in the 16th century to celebrate the power of the city. The famous fountain has been given an affectionate and ironic nickname in the dialect of Bologna by the Bolognese people, “Al Zigant” (the Giant), and it is meant to emphasize its size and impact on the city. This nickname is due to the large size of the statue, which is 3.2 meters tall and weighs 28 tons.

LA DOTTA Turrita, Valverde and Al Zigant are thus a tribute to the history of our city and some of its most significant monuments from the medieval/renaissance ages.
